Transformation, Change, Metamorphasis
The terms transformation, change and metamorphasis have similar meanings.
According to Merriam-Webster online dictionary (merriam-webster.com):
transformation is defined as
: an act, process, or instance of transforming or being transformed;
change is defined as
a: to make different in some particular : alter
b: to make radically different : transform
c: to give a different position, course, or direction to;
metamorphasis is defined as
a: change of physical form, structure, or substance especially by supernatural means
b: a striking alteration in appearance, character, or circumstances.
Do you believe these terms are important for educators? Why?
Looking back at the latest version of your educational philosophy, how have your ideas transformed, changed or metamorphosed during EDPE 4005 - Secondary level Seminar in the Teaching of English with Multi-media?

Terms like transformation, change, and metamorphosis are, in my opinion, very important for educators. Their importance is based more on acts than just words. As future educators we need to be open to change and be willing to transform in order to metamorphose, as we grow professionally. The idea is not to change for the sake of changing, but to become better educators; the transformation must be for the benefit of the students’ education. This change, this transformation, as we all have learned, is the final product of our reflective teaching.
ReplyDeletePersonally, this is my first time writing a proper educational philosophy. The ideas have been there for a while, but not as properly developed. Taking this class, along with Philosophical Fundamentals of Education, has caused my ideas to change. These courses have been eye-opening in a way, and if there is anything that I have learned, besides all these theories and names, is that I cannot box myself into a mold. Nobody wants to be that stagnant puddle mentioned in class.
A teacher once told me, “I am an idealist that sees great value in realism, somewhat pragmatic, with great existential sensibility.” I don’t think I will be forgetting them anytime soon.
When I initially started to take this course I really didn’t think my ideas would change much. As I began to reflect about the different concepts like praxis, critical thinking and reflection, I realized I still had much to learn. I definitely realized that to be an effective educator one must be entirely committed and dedicated. As teachers we have to think out of the box, be creative and find solutions to the issues we will constantly encounter in classrooms. We must be aware of everything that occurs in our classrooms in order to make effective changes that will enhance the environment. I concur with Freire on the notion that students must be allowed to use their background knowledge, curiosity and interests influence them in the learning process. Only when students are motivated, they can actually enjoy and acquire meaningful skills and content when being taught. The learning environment is crucial for successful teaching. Students should be able to express their creativity and use resources that enhance such ability. Technological resources are very important. Nowadays students are engaged to devices and media pertaining to technology. Teachers need to take an advantage over such fact. Implementing technological resources to the way we impart our curriculum will help us capture our students’ attention. Also, it will help them develop important skills necessary to be successful in the 21st century.
ReplyDeleteBesides resources, both the teachers and students values and culture should be respected. We must strive to embrace an ethical environment in our classrooms. Students must be allowed to think freely and critically. They must learn how to evaluate certain issues and be willing to take a position or stance. This is precisely why education equals freedom. In order to have a successful and meaningful society, all individuals should be educated and have the opportunity to participate as active members of such group. These are all ideas that have changed my perspective on education,the role of teachers and students and the way the curriculum should be imparted.
These terms are some of the most important terms in the life of an educator. Knowledge doesn't stay the same; it constantly changes around us just as we think we finally have a grasp on something. It is for this reason that educators must also change and adapt to these changes happening around us. It is our duty to those whom we teach to keep learning, keep innovating and keep changing with the times in order to do our job properly.
ReplyDeleteTechnology is constantly changing. Teachers like technology must change and become proficient in all these advances. When technology doesn't improve, it becomes obsolete. The same can be said for educators. Any educator that doesn't continue learning becomes as useful as an obsolete piece of technology. It is for these reasons that I believe that these terms are important. An educator must continue changing, transforming and metamorphosing into a better, more knowledgeable educator in order to do what it is that he/she does.
When I started the class we were asked to write our educational philosophy. Hearing that always scared me. I had no idea what professors wanted when they asked for that. I had done some before but never had a feedback of the work; did I do an educational philosophy? That was always my question. I always tough it was just about why we became teachers, why we pursued this concentration. So I would end up ranting why I wanted to be a teacher and why I joined the department. But it was not just that. It was something more concrete with ideas fallows by the theories of our greatest philosophers. It is in this class where I finally learn everything I should have learn since the beginning. I been able to do work that I thought I could not. I have learned to push myself harder and just do it. I have seen my improvement. But most importantly I have gained confidence for the future tasks.

Change is part of life. As college students we are acquiring knowledge that will be used the rest of our lives, but we never stop learning, in fact, never stop learning is the key to transformation. In the latest version of my educational philosophy many of my ideas, methods and teaching strategies have evolved. During this course I learned all about official school documents (circular letters, also to select, design, adapt and use appropriate teaching materials, technology, methods and procedures for my classroom. Handle diversity within the teaching and learning process and to become a critical and reflective thinker.
ReplyDeleteAfter taking the class of Seminar I have come to believe that every teacher has to evolve and transform their teaching ways. If teachers continue to teach in the same way they have been teaching for decades, students are going to get stocked like rotten water that begins to stink. I now know that as a future teacher I want to be like a butterfly going through metamorphosis, I want to transform myself and evolve constantly into a better teacher. I want to pollinate my students’ minds with knowledge and the tools they need to learn new things. After taking the course, I have come to believe that being an updated teacher, by integrating technology in my curriculum, is going to enhance my lesson in a degree where my pupils are going to be engaged in the learning process. I will not allow myself to get stocked in the structure that the Department of Education has set for all teachers; I will find ways to transform and renovate my ideas toward what a true educator should be and what tools are best at the moment present.
