Can education liberate?

I've heard many times that, Knowledge is Power.
Paulo Freire (1996) in his book, Pedagogy of Freedom, states that "to teach is not to transfer knowledge but to create the possibilities for the production or construction of knowledge". Also, that "it's in making decisions that we learn to decide". As you reflect on Freire's words, do you think education can liberate? If yes, from what and how. Prof. Lopez

What is praxis?

In our last class we were dicussing what is praxis. Paulo Freire (1986) defines praxis in Pedagogy of the Oppressed as "reflection and action upon the world in order to transform it." Through praxis, oppressed people can acquire a critical awareness of their own condition, and, with their allies, struggle for liberation. What do you understand praxis to be? How will this affect your future practice as teachers? Prof. Arlinda Lopez
