UPRAG Teacher Preparation Program Conceptual Framework
The UPRAG TPP Conceptual Framework (document uploade on the course Moodle page) outlines the programs mission, vision, philosophical support and teacher candidate dispositions. After reading and meditation on the document, what is your reaction to what is expected of the future teacher developed under this program? What do you believe are the highlights of this document?

After reading the UPRAG teacher preparation program framework, I believe that the missions and goals are organized very well and clearly establish what they expect from us future teachers. This document provides full awareness of what we must look forward to achieving in the process of becoming teachers. The philosophy and proficiencies expected from this teacher program are what mostly drew my attention. I really like how the philosophy involves many educational theories from different educational philosophers like Dewey and Kohlberg. It’s interesting to see how there are different theories involved in the philosophy, and they all seem to work together and don’t contradict each other. When it comes to the expected proficiencies, it’s easy to understand and see the relationship of each point and how they are essential in order to achieve the full teacher transformation. Without ethics or respect for diversity it’s impossible to teach our students with equity. I think assessment and technology go in hand, because technology is a very useful resource that permits us to carry out lots of research and learn many great ideas for planning. When it comes to knowledge, it’s obviously very important in order to complete our tasks as teachers proficiently. This is the whole point of taking so many courses and complete field experiences, they enrich our professional knowledge and we gain much needed experience. Last but not least, in order to improve our skills and learn new effective strategies we must commit to what the framework states as Life-long Learning. We should never be satisfied only with what we already know, and should be open to try new innovating ideas.

ReplyDeleteThe PPM UPRAG shows how we as teachers should meet certain standards in order to be able to fulfill our degree in education in elementary or secondary level in the English department. I realize how all the theories, methods, strategies and philosophies are place into perspective and into practice in order to be able to become a proficient candidate in the teacher preparation program. It comes to my mind how all these requirement for the teacher to fulfill these standards such as: assessment, technology, ethics knowledge, diversity, life-long learning are and come from the philosophers we have been studying and reviewing in the different courses of methodology, fundamentals and psychology as it is: Pyaget, Vygotsky, Gardner, Hostos, Kolghbert, Dewey in others. The importance of graving and keeping in mind all these different theories to use it in daily basis to teach is essential and being open-minded to incorporate new knowledge in your teaching process especially in the use of technology to create a constructivist environment where students are an active part of their learning process so they can achieve a higher level of proficiency. It is crucial for us as future teachers to complete standards of different programs as it is NCATE, INTASCT, CESPR in others; without leaving behind the PCMAS and SEDERE which measures the candidate proficiency to become a teacher. The standards and criteria’s of a teacher are much higher than I imagine, we as teacher have to be prepare in all the areas required in these field and much more as a person and role model we have to be efficient in our work.
The UPRAg TPP Conceptual Framework presents a truly complete and well described picture of the teachers it expects from the program candidates. The programs purpose and goals are great indicators of what it wants to produce, educators that really know what they are doing, how to do it, and why they educate the way they do. It is also interesting that the program uses a variety of educational theories and philosophies, working together and complimenting each other, to help create the proper teaching environment.
ReplyDeleteIt was interesting to see the capacities (6) in this framework, which the program aims to develop in the candidates. We can see knowledge as the core of this framework. Without a teacher’s knowledge of the subject, along with the knowledge he/she should have of the theories and philosophies used to teach today’s students, the teaching-learning process will not give the positive results wanted. Technology is also a central part of this program. By using multimedia technologies in the classroom, the teachers have tools used to reach the students and help them interact more efficiently. An adequate code of ethics is also important in the teacher’s arsenal. Without an appropriate ethical code teachers will not be seen as models of proper behavior by their students and the school community. A part of the ethical equity aspect is the respect of diversity in the classroom in order to reach all students, no matter their particular situation. Teachers need to understand and respect the diversity they will find in the classroom, ignoring this aspect only creates faulty teachers and students who stay behind in their learning. All these aspects together influence teachers’ assessment techniques. By properly using the aspects of the framework teachers can create an effective assessment with which to verify the students learning. Finally the document mentions the pledge teachers should honor to life-long learning. Teachers should be open-minded, as it is important that they stay up-to-date in the latest teaching trends.
Another interesting part of this program is the importance it gives to a thorough and comprehensive field experience. As a student from Natural Sciences I am used to the hands on experience, the shift from theory to practice when we move from the classroom to the laboratory. Through this field work we gain the necessary experience and get a first glance at the tasks of the profession. I believe UPRAg’s TPP covers all important aspects that contribute to make effective and reflective teachers.
My overall reaction to the UPRAG teacher preparation program framework is that it is very fair and throughout. I love that the mission is so broad in the sense of the different options there are for a student to become an open educated critical thinker. For the vision I think that it is outstanding for aiming that the UPRAG is to be known as an entity filled with an exceptional education, especially among other universities. It is a brilliant way to put trust in the work to be done and it allows great challenge. With big expectations come greater reasons for others to want to live up to what it’s anticipated of them. As for the philosophical support and teacher candidates’ disposition I think it’s something that you should remind yourself over and over again. Because as it mentions, as a teacher you need to know what you’re going to teach and how to do so. Therefore it is important to be prepared in every aspect, whether is cognitive, social, assessment, values etc.
ReplyDeleteFor me the parts that are highlighted the most are assessment and ethics.
Assessment -> ongoing -> helps meet goals
The assessment, lesson plan, helps by being a guide to what we want to do and how to do it. With this we can meet our goals, and go back and revise it if they aren’t. Also, the assessment is a way to help measure if in fact the goals are being met.
As for the ethics, I strongly think that in order for your teaching to be better and more effective it is important for there to be respect, fairness, justice, sensitivity, values, etc. in the classroom, both students and teachers. And this is something that is mentioned quite a few times in the framework; a framework that in overall conclusion I will be happy to follow.
Our teacher preparation program’s conceptual frame work identifies a future teachers and active professor’s possible courses of action and presents a approach to education. This theoretical structure describes assumptions, principles, and rules that holds together the ideas hat consist of a broads concept. As well as standards held in the institute and goals to fulfill. This framework main mission is to prepare today’s students for tomorrows future teaching, providing long life learning, committing to personal and professional work. The universities view is to have one of the most excellent programs, offering the best courses for a better understanding. Its mission is to give alternative and various education and the mission is to responds to the commitment of being a model of excellence. The Mission of the Teacher Preparation Program is to create qualified teachers in the elementary and secondary level with English as a Second language combined with multimedia technology. Prepared teachers candidates with opportunities to develop competencies. A very important aspect of the UPRAg’s conceptual frame work is the accreditation provided by National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, better known as NCATE.As well as providing a well balanced education and preparation; our professors are as well prepared for any subject and specialized in specific materials for our advantage. Every professor is specialized in-depth knowledge of the subject matter that they plan to teach. Professors must enforce various assessments and diversity in their educational methods for the future teacher candidates. It also clarifies the student’s role as a student and the development to a future teacher, from involvement or admission, up to practice field experience. One of the main preparations is not only to graduate to continue your role as a teacher, put to be highly prepared to e certified as an excellent educator in the Department of Education in Puerto Rico. Personally, this program has the key elements to succeed in every element as well as give schools excellent teachers ready for long life teaching. Any elements make a great framework, and this teacher preparation program has them all, from great teaching methods to well prepared professors.
ReplyDeleteReading our TPP Conceptual Framework lets me see the high expectations the Department of Education has for me. After carefully reading and analyzing the document I have a more clear vision of what i should do and how I can become a professional at my future job. This guides me through the right path. Personally I really think that the teachers that are teaching this generatio be forced to be abided by this document. If every teacher in Puerto Rico would have in mind, every day, what this TPP tells us our education would be better. To me the highlights of this document are the vision and the mission. To me a these are the keys of becoming the future professional teacher we are determined to be. To be in continous learning is what makes a teacher a pro. Mostly, teachers today tend to be outdated and that's when education becomes boring. I hope that when a become a teacher i can be one of the best and implement in my teaching this framework. My fear has always been this: "would i be a good and funtertaining at my calling". I hope i won't become or be a boring teacher.

I think, like Christopher, that if all teachers in the department of education would take in all this document and reply it fervently the schools in Puerto Rico would be more inviting facilities.
DeleteChristopher, I think that if you continue to stand by your thoughts you are going to be a great teacher!

ReplyDeleteDuring the final class we discussed briefly the Teacher Preparation Conceptual Framework. This document is no other then a descriptive and well highlighted structure of what to expect from future teaching candidates. The slogan of the program is “Preparing excellent teachers for tomorrow… today!” I find this to be the essence of the whole document discussed. The document consists of various parts including the teaching candidate’s proficiencies and goals the program wishes the candidates can fulfill. All candidates must be fully aware of their role as influential individuals in the student learning process. That a student is not just a blank sheet of paper where the teacher writes knowledge but rather a active thinker. As for the teaching candidate the program is some what of a guide to what the future teacher should be capable of doing. Some highlights of the document are the six core areas:knowledge, technology, ethics, diversity, assessment, and life-long learning. Like everything in life their are rules to being a excellent teacher and if you ask me not hard to follow either.
I did'nt notice the slogan of the program. The slogan is really awesome. I especially like when you wrote that "candidates should be aware of their role as influential individuals..." Teachers are important in every society because of the influence he/she brings on his/ her students.
DeleteThe teacher preparation program's vision talks about how teacher candidates should be. Out of all the characteristics that a teacher should have I would like to point out "transforming professional in continuous learning..." Many teachers give class for years with the same lesson plans and curriculum this is a mistake. A teacher should be constantly transforming, and how? Teachers can use educational magazines and the internet to learn about new trends in education. Another part I would like to point out is "The teacher candidate, as a cognitive-humanistic, constructivist educator, will apply the pedagogical and professional knowledge, skills and dispositions needed to help all students learn." I would like to highlight ALL STUDENTS LEARN. Not all students are the same so not all should be given the same treatment. A teacher might have a student that is very talented and the problem is that these students can get bored easily. A teacher might have a student that does not learn as fast as other students and might get frustrated. Students are individuals and each one of them is unique.
ReplyDeleteThe teacher preparation program's mision states the goals of the program. "...integrating technology as a powerful and creative tool for effective learning..." Our English program stands out from the rest because our program prepares teacher to use technology in the classroom. I like to think of ourselves as the teacher's of the 21st century. "...profesionals with ethical and aesthetic values, respectful, and tolerant of individual differences..." A teacher must teach values and respect his/her students. Not all students are alike, but they should be treated withe the same ammount of respect as the rest. "... commited to life long learning." A teacher must know that not only is he/she a facilitator, but also a co-learner.
the teacher prepation program's philosophy is very important and all points are just important as the rest, but I would like to point out "Knowledge is an active process where the students are not just passive recipients of information, but active participants ..." A teacher should not just go in front of the class and lecture all the time while using a text book. Students have to be inspired to learn not obligated to. There is so much tools now that a teacher can use to help motivate students into learning. Technology is one of those tools and a powerful one.
I agree with everything you posted, as future educators we have to treat equally every student but at the same time have in mind that they are individuals with different needs. Also, i liked that you mentioned that "students have to be inspired to learn not obligated to", as teacher candidates we have to look for ways to motivate and make learning interesting and even fun.

ReplyDeleteThe Conceptual Framework of the Teachers’ Preparation Program is simple and precise. It is clear what the programs is about and what it expects from the student and who are being prepared to be teachers based on this program. I consider the philosophy to be a highlight of this document because in a nutshell it lets you know what its expected of the candidates and what the program is all about. I will also like to point out one of the pre-conditions mention, which is the Life-long learning. It is a highlight to me because I understand this to be one of the reasons teacher are stuck when teaching and see no progress in their classes.

ReplyDeleteThe TPP conceptual framework we read and discussed in class is very clear. I like that it was precise and easy to understand what its purpose is. It is important to note that the institutional vision specifies that the programs offered by the institution are relevant to the needs of our culture beacause it is always important when you are going to teach to have in mind the specific needs of the students. At the same time, the TPP vision says that the teacher will be able to adapt and teach in a global society. I beleive that this is exactly what we are being prepared for and that the UPRAG TPP has all the necessary tools to send us future educators into the teaching world prepared to teach anywhere but at the same time to be aware of the specific needs of every culture. All that this document says that is expected from us goes back to what we have been discussing in class about respecting and embracing diversity and about becoming the reflective teachers that are capable of taking knowledge to embrace, transform, and adapt beacuse knowledge is constantly changing around us. It is a great program with the appropriate tools, professors, acreditation, methods and strategies to achieve all the goals and mission that are in the framework. For me, the highlight of this document eould be the philosophy because it is very specific with the theories and theorists they use and it is very well constructed and supported.
You are right. learning to adapt in a global society is important. The world seems smaller now than ever and a teacher must be prepared to expect students from different cultures. Teachers must respect different cultures.

ReplyDeleteMy overall reaction to TPP is that this program is very well develop to help the future teachers to be great teachers in the future. Also the diversity that the Teacher Preparation program presents on how a teacher can educate and develop students critical thinking skills is amazing. All the things that they show and ask for us the future teachers to do and develop while in the program are things that we really are going to apply and put to work from the first day that we get to teach. The expectations that TP program has for the practitioners are high because they only want to have great and well prepared future teachers. Every little thing from ways of evaluating to the daily lesson plans are presented to as things that they already know that you as a future teacher knows and is going to apply at the higher quality that you can. The candidate is here a vase that is going to be use to give the students an optimums teaching experience. All candidates are filled with exceptional educations in the UPRAG TPP. They know what they have to do inside a classroom and they know their area of study like the palm of their hands. This TPP is designed so when the candidates go out and look for a job do the best of the best in their jobs this way they can meet the TPP goals and be great Educators.
The Conceptual Framework of the Teachers’ Preparation Program is implementing skills and developing a program where the educational needs of society, in this case of Puerto Rico, are fulfilled. The vision is to prepare the teacher candidate to be reflective, educated, to keep on learning and educating him/her self, and applying all pedagogical and professional knowledge to help students reach the ultimate objective: learn. It was great to see the teacher candidate goals, providing through them a sense of focus for the teaching process, candidates, performance and responsibility. Also, the model used to represent the aim of the program, helps setting in a clear and organized way the manner to achieve transforming and creating a reflective and knowledgeable candidate. Being knowledge the core of the model, it pursues the awareness of teacher roles as important and influential individuals in the students learning process. The model emphasizes also technology, with which the learning process can be enhanced. It’s important for educators to have ethics, to exhibit a conduct of proper behavior, showing respect, justice and fairness to all students and colleagues. Since all countries are full of diversity, the teacher candidate has to respect all diversity among students in the classroom. Furthermore, assessment will allow candidates to use portfolios, journals, tests, projects and many other criteria and strategies to evaluate the learning process, reflect and asses the learning. At last but not least, it’s important that all candidates keep developing and enriching their professional field. Since with time everything changes, I agree that teacher candidates have to be up to date with all that’s going on. This way they’ll become involve in action research: improving schools, growing professionally, and improving performance. I believe that the teachers preparation program is an excellent outline for creating and preparing great future teachers.

The Conceptual Framework of the Teachers’ Preparation Program explains what the program is about. It explains what they expect from the candidate they are preparing to be a teacher. They also explain the mission, vision, goals, purpose, etc. One of the highlight of the document is where the TPP vision says that the teacher will be able to adapt and teach in a global society, which is exactly what we need. Not only to focus on a certain society but a global society. They highlight that as teachers we are life long learners who have a huge influence on our students, this means that we need to keep perfecting our profession to better teach our students effectively.

After reading the Conceptual Framework of the Teacher's Preparation Program I have come to the conclusion that this is a very complete yet complicated program according to all its standards. There are a lot of things expected from the teacher candidates as well as lots of useful information regarding pedagogical philosophies. I learned that the program bases the preparation of the students in six different areas: knowledge, technology, ethics, diversity, assessment, and life-long learning. Each component plays an important part into the program because they constitute an outstanding professional teacher. We all know that with today's world we need the incorporation of new technology to make learning effective, easy, and intuitive. As future teachers, we need to be respectful by respecting our students' diversity and displaying a positive image on morals and values. Also, we need to prepare action research in order to improve our teaching and prosper in life-long learning because we do not stop learning until we perish from this world. I believe these are the major highlights that the program focuses on and what is expected of us, future teachers.
